Road Conditions Report

Highway 5, southbound. Construction work between Miledge Creek Bridge and Thunder River Rd for 4.9 km (17 to 12 km north of Blue River). Until Sat Nov 7 at 5:00 PM PST. From 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST on weekdays. Watch for traffic control. Single Lane Alternating Traffic will only be required for a brief duration during mobilization and demobilization of materials and equipment.

Highway 5, in both directions. Construction work between Hoirup Rd and Skinner Rd (10 km north of Vavenby). Until Thu Apr 30 at 5:00 PM PST. From 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM PST on weekdays and Saturday. Single lane alternating traffic. Culvert install near the junction of Hwy 5 and Martin Creek Forest Service Road.

Highway 5, northbound. Construction work between Six Mile/HWY 5 Bridge and Blue River Bridge for 11.8 km (Blue River). Until Fri Apr 10 at 4:00 PM PDT. Lane Closure. Single lane alternating traffic. Watch for traffic control.

Highway 5 (Coquihalla North), southbound. Maintenance planned between Inks Lake Rd and Exit 336: Walloper Interchange for 9.8 km (15 km north of Surrey Lake Summit to 9 km south of Kamloops). Starting Tue Apr 28 until Thu Apr 30. From 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM PDT on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Right lane will be closed. Watch for traffic control personnel.

Highway 5 (Coquihalla South), southbound. Road maintenance work planned between Exit 192 and Exit 183: Othello Rd for 8.5 km (6 to 15 km north of Hope). Starting Mon Apr 13 until Thu Apr 16. From 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM PDT daily. Environmental work. Right lane closed. Watch for traffic control.

The Southern Yellowhead highway is the name for the northern section of Highway 5.

Highway 5 follows the North Thompson River north from Kamloops along a parallel course with the Canadian National Railway. It passes the road to Adams Lake before entering the town Barriere. North of Barriere it goes past the highway 24 junction in Little Fort. North of Little Fort, while continuing to follow the North Thompson River and the CN Railway, Highway 5 reaches Clearwater.  From Clearwater Highway 5 proceeds northeast through Vavenby and Avola going to Blue River. heading through the Columbia Mountains to Valemount and Tête Jaune Cache and then crosses the Fraser River after which it immediately meets Highway 16.
